Few people actually heard the background music from windows xp installation because it was set to play before the audio drivers were configured. Someone once said: “peak windows is setting the smooth club hit of the millenium to play BEFORE THEY SET THE AUDIO DRIVERS TO CONFIGURE in their own installation” https://youtu.be/SKricIeeru0?feature=shared

What’s happened to Notion is a sad yet predictable scenario of a business getting very popular while trying to do too many things outside of its core product. The core product suffers as a result, and now those things they invested in that nobody outside of the core team asked for ( mail, calendar and ai) need to be paid for, hence the bait and switch. It will be interesting to see if they walk some of this back or double down on this strategy. In 2025 there are other options that do what its core product does.(Obsidian and anytype come to mind). Ultimately they have the most to gain from Notion fumbling the ball here.

As I slowly move my operations off of Notion, it's shady practices like this that remind me why. Obsidian has been a great alternative for personal use, but lacks the architecture to be fully robust for collaborative teams. For that I'm looking to revisit Anytype and experiment with Appflowy. Has anybody here used either of those two in a collaborative setting? https://www.reddit.com/r/Notion/comments/1kli8c4/open_letter_to_notion_ceo_about_pricing_and/

I gather this might have been said when the Monad airdrop happened last week, but from a launch perspective, giving out credits to a platform that you can't even interact with yet was a poor choice. The testnet aspect was clever since people can't swap or dump it, but if you don't give people something to immediately do with it you've lost an otherwise active audience, along with a large amount of momentum. Attention moves so quickly in this space, it will be interesting to see who actually cares to interact with it when it's ready. Would love to hear the Merkle team talk about what lessons they'd iterate on from this for their next collaboration.

There are two games I've been working on for years. Since I was a solo dev working on it in my spare time the progress moved at a snails pace. The main challenge was maintaining momentum each time I hit a wall. Flash forward to present day, vibe coding has completely upended this process. Hope to share more in the coming weeks, but if you're someone who's had similar struggles, I highly recommend this article to help get started https://www.indiehackers.com/post/tech/the-ultimate-guide-to-making-ai-games-with-cursor-a7E47ctWdIoBMrsMZTrF

The literary world has had frauds & hucksters long before ai entered onto the scene. We're now entering an era where if your prompt game is strong, it can open doors on multiple levels. No doubt, the slop will continue to exist and proliferate, but a good editor looks for strong points of view and style. Now, more than ever is there's an onus to separate the wheat from the chaff and surface it, regardless of the tool set.

The question of pro or anti anonymity is second to the question of trust and honesty. As Farcaster grows, this whole conversation the community is having around this issue is both healthy and necessary. Having said that, from watching how similar incidents have unfolded in this space in the past, rarely does either a well known or doxed scammer actually take their actions into account and course correct. SBF and Do Kwan might have had their actions catch up with them, but if they were to get back in the game I have no doubt people would still invest and pour billions into their next endeavour. Most people have short memories, and grifters and scammers bank on it regardless if they use their real name or not.

Truly the embodiment of the Buckminster Fuller quote: “You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete."
