Recently become a fan of the quote cast. 

Find myself increasingly defaulting to a quote cast versus a reply.

Why? I try to do the opposite

Quote casting feels like it’s just making it about you rather than having a conversation

Agreed, those are good cases for quotes. I originally thought you meant you were using quotes as a replacement for replies which I’ve seen some people do (and I don’t think is very productive).

I think it depends on context but historically i've replied a lot and quoted very little and recently i've started quoting some more. 2 main cases for quoting are (1.) adding to my own cast (wouldn't be conversational either way), and (2.) if someone's cast/reply prompts a thought I feel merits a top level cast.

I think it's generally about amplifying the message vs diving deeper primarily with folks already in the convo

I’ll qc when the op gives me an adjacent thought. A reply like that often feels out of place and a qc is sort of a new vector.
