The financial nihilism will continue until “you have two years to get rich and save yourself before AGI comes and takes your jobs and you are destined to live in Sam Altman UBI dystopia forever” is no longer the dominant narrative most people have not benefited at all from advancements in AI, it has only made them more anxious about the future, and while some things are skill issues I don’t think this is one. it’s a failure of either product or gtm or the tech just not being good enough yet

I get that, and I'm probs more excited than most and yet .... I've yet to hear a compelling vision for how AI isn't dystopian for the average economic participant (highschool grad or bachelors degree, $70k a year, maybe service industry) outside of "UBI."

these are the same folks who, two decades ago, were told "learn to code" when we talked about globalization.

hard not to view AI as dystopian when all of the CEOs of major research labs have p(Doom)s at a minimum of 25% and p(Doom) here is existential risk to humanity, not just a bunch of people losing jobs
