Do people actually consciously make a judgement about quality of service when they tip??!

I always just mindlessly add 15-20%. So the whole "tipping incentivizes quality of service" argument has always seemed unrealistic to me.

Tipping is simply a way to force consumers to subsidize low wages paid by employers. I also give an automatic 15-20% and it has nothing to do with service it’s more like a situation where I feel the server is being held hostage and I have to pay their ransom.

A just leader should intervene to end this abominable practice.

We need a tipping cultural reset for a generation or so in the states. 

In New Zealand it works mostly as intended, you give a tip for exceptional service but it's not expected.
