I think there are a lot of initiatives for this all over the place. Bamboo, hemp, and even freaking mushrooms have all kinds of potential (the first 2 used extensively in history) as renewable and biodegradable potentials for a lot of our plastic needs (containers and clothes, mushrooms look like they have potential for some of the more deep and dirty industrial ises)

This is probably huge cope, but there aren’t many studies that show microplastics have direct negative effects on the human body. We may learn they do in time, but we also don’t want to panic like we did with GMOs
