I think there are a lot of initiatives for this all over the place. Bamboo, hemp, and even freaking mushrooms have all kinds of potential (the first 2 used extensively in history) as renewable and biodegradable potentials for a lot of our plastic needs (containers and clothes, mushrooms look like they have potential for some of the more deep and dirty industrial ises)

Are things like rayon made from bamboo actually better for us? My understanding is that it's the additives used in plastics that are the real issue. phthalates to make it soft, pfas for waterproofing, etc.
