We might not need them to be an alter boy but we do need the moral compass pointing north otherwise cant really trust them to ensure the security of our nation imo.

That second part is conventional wisdom in US politics. Meme doesn’t apply. Similar arguments are used by presidents and their supporters (e.g John Yoo) to expand their powers or justify the excesses that result from these expanded powers.
