My unpopular (at least in tech) opinion is that professional education is bad and liberal arts is gud actualy. You can pick up job skills anytime anywhere, but you can realistically only sit deeply with history, philosphy, and the arts when you're under 20.

it's never too late to learn to code. but it often is too late for people to learn to think. once you're used to thinking wrong, it's hard to think right again

Art, history and philosophy also need each other to help foster deeper understandings too - even more time that really only young people can afford to spend

If you do, it carries with you throughout life. Even if you forget the details, the critical thinking remains.

I would love to agree but I think us people in "tech" are biased. The capital goods that we need to get going are just a laptop and an internet connection. Not same for biochemistry or mechanical engineering.

This. So the logical thing to do is cut more and more programs. Liberal arts promotes critical thinking. It is becoming obvious that people up top do not want that , and have been gradually trying to get rid of it.

honestly my history degree has done numbers as I’ve just picked up tech skills along the way, never lost a sense of the patterns through time, universal principles I learned at that time

My main gripe here is: you liberal arts SCHOOL, doesn’t teach you to think imo. There’s a homogèny of thought that defeats the purpose. But at its core I like your idea
