i don't really understand the string of founder-only acquisitions that have been happening lately in the AI world. isn't this basically the acquirer saying: 'hey here's a dumptruck full of cash for you to fuck over your investors and employees'

It's a regulatory hack. FTC won't let big companies acquire other companies. So they hire the talent and give the other company some value.
