Between the drone network and the holographic ads, they sky had been artificial for decades. 

You had to take the elevator up if you wanted to see the stars for yourself, and most people who did complained about how dull it was in comparison to the AI-filtered images projected by the drone net.

It wasn't until the invasion that humanity remembered how important it was to look up.
