It was bonfire night last weekend at the /allotment, lots of branches and other detritus burned to ash, and to be turned into the soil for next season! Do you make bonfires on your plots? How often? We are only allowed to do them twice a year here.

Beautiful! We are not allowed any fires unfortunately... Can barely do a barbecue 😬 People mostly use dead wood hedges and wood chippers to deal with their wood. I also bury it as a bottom layer to raised beds to improve an area where the soil is really poor.

That's good ways to deal with it if you're not allowed to burn them. How long does it take to break down in the raised beds? I'm glad we're allowed because if you grow many fruit trees, every year there's quite a lot of hardwood prunings that need to be dealt with! Some of the longer straight whips from plum trees we'll use to weave fences or as staking canes, but inevitably we end up with a big pile of things to burn down twice a year.
