live with Justin Kan: “I actually recant that tweet [attached]. If you don’t have a great product, you’re fucked and distribution doesn’t matter. The more accurate is second time founders care about product AND distribution but that doesn’t sound as good.” Product + distribution > product > distribution

Most of what I’ve seen called “growth” from dev day is really product and not at all about distribution i understand focusing on building a product that has clear differentiation/PMF but FC/WC disregards distribution to an extent that’s pretty surprising for a social product

ah, i see so imo Justin Kan would actually say that’s the disciplined and right approach: focus on nailing the product before you focus on distribution because “if you have a bad product, you’re fucked” seems a waste of resources to me to focus on distribution before you optimize product

Do you think FC/WC is a bad product? My main criticism relative to distribution is that FC/WC has not made it easy to onboard people or give power users/builders the right tools to help them do that

Our problem is retention, not onboarding. Solve retention, onboarding becomes the problem to solve.

you can build around a topic or on people currently it’s focused on people which means people leave if no engagement
