🎙️ Chassol plays Basquiat & more x Cully Jazz Festival 🔊 {| wordstobemusic | vol. IV} Basquiat wanted to paint like a kid. So, when the prestigious Philharmonie de Paris hosted the “Basquiat Soundtracks” exhibition and invited Chassol to create a special performance for the occasion, the French jazz pianist seized the opportunity to blend both worlds through the glance of a child. 🧵

To make his creation happen, Chassol turned to his signature production, the “ultrascore”—a method of composing music directly from recorded voices and images. Here, the raw material came from videos of his son and nephews reacting to “Action Comics,” one of Basquiat’s paintings inspired by superheroes.

This ground forged | high-hype |, a poem with verses as a narrative, calling from afar. On April 10th, Chassol will present an immersive artistic experience and excerpts of his other musical endeavors at the Cully Jazz. | high-hype | I found myself lying on the ground, left to bleed realness to erase the fakeness you tattooed on my name I thought you were ready to heal the worksong still pounding in our ears Yet, I found my name lying on the walls, left to deny its mark on the road to reframe the authentic in my veins. I thought they were ready to heal, yet all they do is high-hype their hip. ☁️✒️
