all of other successful consumer apps have been started by engineers and i doubt any had marketers as one of the 10 first hires

few. engineering with growth skills is the highest leverage. marketing alone won't build repeatable viral loops. quite a few of those engineers are growth/product first but very few realize this. they spend to much time focusing on titles.
