I believe this is an Iris, and it's massive! Would it be possible to take it with me home and plant it? (I'm at a family members home, and they're okay with it. Haha)

If you see them fairly regularly I would mark it and split the tuber in the autumn. You will have far more chance of success since it's in full growing mode right now and you will need to give it LOADS of love to keep it going through the summer. It's beautiful 😍

If they are reasonably savvy with a fork get them to split it later in the year and mail it to you. 😉. Irises are mailed all the time by suppliers in the UK.

If you decide to take some try and take a smaller piece from the edge with say 2 crowns- young small pieces move and establish better. Keep as much of the roots and soil around as possible, pack in damp compost/ newspaper and keep as cool as possible for the trip😉

Ah, sadly not. Once a year or so because it's a 10 hour drive, haha. Hmm, what to do what to do 😂
