i just... can't do normal stuff with it? ofc i can install all this, but it's a unix system... where's my `identify` and `convert` in the terminal? why does it take so long for the side appbar to come out? why are all the animations so long? why doesn't "delete" delete the files? why can't i close finder with cmd+q but can other apps? why does the autocomplete and spellchecker suck so much?

Close and quit are diff things in mac land. Close is basically a suspend, quit is actually full quit. Cmd+w for Close and Q for quit as you said You can't quit finder because its not just the file explorer but most of the desktop window manager is all finder basically. Even if you do quit it from the terminal it will auto restart

ser i've been with macos between 2010 and 2022, i do realize the difference between closing and quitting (especially that gnome uses the same terms on linux) "you can't quit finder" well then close it on cmd+q, having different shortcuts makes you spend extra mental capacity it's just one of the examples of little things that are very annoying, but fanboys always find a way to brush them off, like "we don't need 3rd party ios appstores" or "we don't need to put icons on ios home screen anywhere on the screen"

FWIW im not a fanboy and there's definitely annoying things but its just to prevent normies from crashing their desktop manager trying to quit an app lol

it is absolutely not preventing them though, cmd+q can close, similarly to how cmd+w quits safari on the last tab (which is also annoying especially if you have 3 pinned tabs open) so this literally has no reason besides apple not caring enough to fix this, many such cases in ios/macos/apple ecosystem
