Close but not quite. Russia invaded Ukraine because all Russian energy exports flow out of Eastern Ukraine. If Russia doesn’t dominate Ukraine their economy relies at the goodwill of what government happens to be in power in Ukraine

I’ve read it and the logic of political survival. Doesn’t detract from my point — Russia invaded ukraine for geo-strategic reasons, not to indirectly enrich cronies
