gm, if you don't know the story behind 10k steps, you're in for a treat japanese scientists hooked up step counters to japanese office workers because japenese office workers were healthier than other countries they got 8k steps on average usa heart doctors looked at this data and said us can do better and added 2k

yes 10k is arbitrary but the more steps you walk the lower your risk of all-cause mortality https://academic.oup.com/eurjpc/article/30/18/1975/7226309

but you then seem to imply walking more than 3500 steps isn’t very important compared to diet, but walking more is very important

this is precisely what i'm saying, yes, when you factor in research, diminishing returns and opportunity costs ser this was my thesis of my kinesiology PhD dissertation

but every 1000 steps over 3500 leads to a 15% reduction in all cause mortality, it sure seems worth doing

ser do you realise that: 1. this is correlation, not causality 2. there is more solid research on other activities with higher benefits 3. people pick one thing and do it (on average), not multiple

ser 1. same can be said for diets 2. like what? 3. yes and walking is an incredibly easy thing for most people to do, it’s what we humans are built to do

ser this is false everybody who tries to get to 10k steps a day knows it it is incredibly difficult to stay above 10k for an average human daily and this is completely demotivating taken almost zero affect on health in short term
