Hmm could be! But operating in parallel with this curve is the introduction of social media. In particular, facebook. So I could see it being related to the iPhone (via app store --> fb added to your pocket), but it may be more of a result of the software than the hardware, since people also use computers for social media a ton, especially back in the late 2000s
