Would love to hear others thoughts on this. If you’re an artist, what’s your strategy with them? If you’re a collector, how do you feel free mints will affect the value of artists other minted works? https://x.com/rdtothemoon/status/1816628410619162971?s=46&t=-Wh-eTHr_TysZEzr5OfcOQ

I had an idea that free or cheap mints should be low res (similar to a postcard or sticker instead of a print). So it's a collectible, but is not a high resolution image that could be printed. I suggested this in the tavern space that @jonathancolton mentioned below with @wanderloots.eth. I personally have not done free mints.

Ha thats an interesting take about the resolution. What about the style? Say your free mints are very similar to your higher priced 1/1s?

I personally don't see that as a problem at all, especially if you mitigate with something like a low-res post token. Someone like Zora is aiming for phone minting. So give those tokens phone resolution and save the high res for 1/1s, that could be displayed on a tv or a print

What abut artists who want to get repped by galleries though, what's your take on that? I feel like it would be very different and affect you in different ways based off your goals as an artist.

add a watermark, lower the resolution, add a "post token" frame around the piece that clearly indicates it's meant for low-price point purchasing, not gallery display. Call it a sticker, call it a card, call it a post token 🤷‍♂️ Post tokens as works in progress, or behind the scenes of the pieces that you then mint in higher res for gallery level promotion I think there's no single right path

I was thinking more in terms of supply because it is def a barrier from the feedback ive gotten but I like the WIP & BTS idea a lot.

That’s what my article is about actually, how we’re confusing supply and provenance. No one cares if there are 100,000 posters of a piece of art, if there’s only 1 museum quality 1/1. The source of the supply (provenance) dictates how one supply is distinguished from another. IMO, this is what smart contracts enable, though you could also distinguish via chain
