12 years of french in school but never figured it out

is there a panel of French aristocrats who decide what each new item's gender is? Curious how they figure this out, seems... tricky.

The worst is we have the same thing in Spanish/Castellano and for almost 90% of everything we are in sync between both language and then out of nowhere the French change it up on us 😂
