research suggests there are two distinct modes of leadership: dominance and prestige. in my life i have seen many ~great (effective?) founders demonstrate dominance, but who are the great prestige-based leaders? is it possible to inhabit both / must you as a founder? is this simply war time vs peace time ceo?

off the top of my head i think vitalik likely fits this archetype well. from close but not quite first hand jon callaghan from true ventures seems to as well, although vc is p different from startups and i don’t know that operating patterns translate i could name dozens id place in the dominance bucket without even really thinking about it patrick collision is possibly another prestige oriented leader? tho i don’t have enough close knowledge to say

i don’t think so. ofc there’s a thin line between being commanding and demanding as a leader which separates someone from a leader vs iron fist ruler imo while lots of iron fist rulers dominated the ceo role in the past, i hopeful that era has evolved with the introduction of understanding the importance of EQ, and leading with authority doesn’t mean leading with fear https://blog.aaronvick.com/rethinking-leadership-1
