I’m making my first hire! My instinct is to pay them as low as I can, but I have to think about the tasks they need to do first. I don’t know how to account for the labour of my time and their time in each candle. this is the clarification! https://warpcast.com/samantha/0x9cadb549

yeah.. i think you generally get what you pay for. If people feel like they’re getting paid well, they’ll work hard. If they feel like they’re getting short changed, they’ll drag their feet i’d try to figure out what “market rate” is (v hard in some roles) and combine that with a comp philosophy

thinking about your own time is more complicated. How happy are you with what you’re doing? I wouldn’t think too hard about how much you could be paid elsewhere.. i think that leads to optimizing for the wrong thing and unnecessary stress/unhappiness over time
