Even just notifications, would be great. I need to see the red dot there.
But yes, you can have other channel-related things too. The long channels list that doesn't fit in the left bar is more annoying than useful. They could go there.

i think i’d prefer it in manage channels personally

Is this on mobile - my window looks completely different. More like an app although I’m on my laptop
