so what happened here? i'm in an imessage group chat of 5, mostly sports and tech talk

we mention "dopamine detox" in a few messages yesterday (i never searched or googled in a browser)

within a couple of hours i get an ad on instagram (first time i remember seeing this ad), this morning a friend gets an ad on tiktok

working on receipts.xyz // workout. earn points. /receipts

it’s a normie subject and you got an ad about it

Someone else likely searched and they linked you guys (probably also showed ads to others who aren’t in the group chat)

possibly, and then the logic is "dopamine detox" is such a strong keyword tiktok or IG will show ads to others in your social graph 

as opposed to, let's say, a coffee maker or cat food

You didn't search, but did anyone else, and are they connected to you via a social graph that could be ingested by TikTok or Instagram?

mobiles nowadays even listen to verbal conversations and will get you ads accordingly...it's spooky&sad but true 😢
