I actually really love how america has this deep level of culture of people (in this case, both the driver and the company execs) willing to be disobedient to authority in service of higher principles

I admire the american insistence on freedom. It's a shame that I see it less and less.

Apart of the American Identity, regardless of our diversity, is a hatred of government & authority. It’s deeply ingrained. Which is why I’m often confused that we continue to hand more and more power to institutions. But human behavior is contradictory.

I guess being a country that fought for independence helps you build this resilience against the state. During Polish history classes we learn about a guy who opposed Prussian occupants (picrel) :)

But also, there are people that just deserve to rot in hell (this goes for every country, in every continent). Case in point: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2025/01/27/texas-teacher-ice-raid-north-side-high-school/77972102007/

If only more people had this general anarchist vibe we might still be kicking ass as a country. Make Americans Think For Themselves Again!

idk how much of it was "higher principles" in this case 🀣 100% on the larger point. America has this deep-rooted basic libertarianism where our heros are renegades and people don't like being told what to do. and despite that, a great track record of institution building. beautifully antifragile.

Nothing more American than telling a cop to gargle balls. Like our desire to flip off authority makes everything here great and also terrible.
