I'm still thankful every day for the fact that most websites are built on an HTML DOM that is so friendly to introspection and hacking. Given the directions the rest of mainstream computing is going it feels like a miracle that we got that and it has held on for so long.

100%. This is also why GrapheneOS(Android) > iOS. The latter might have a shiny UI but I'd choose an open system over a closed one every single day

JavaScript and CSS have mutated dozens of distinct dialects from different periods of time yet today they all still work together harmoniously. The level of dedication browser engines have toward maintaining backward compatibility is pretty astonishing.

When Steve Jobs launched the iPhone he initially pitched HTML5 as the ultimate app dev platform. Native apps ended up dominating on mobile, but web apps are far from dead.

We should enjoy it while it lasts. Anti ad blocking measures are gaining steam over at Google. It’s sad that the open internet of the 1.0 era is already dead.
