What are your thoughts on the Reddit API controversy, and on how they're treating developers and moderators? how could crypto/decentralization improve this?

Definitely seems worrying. It's interesting to think through, how would this be handled differently if reddit were "decentralized"? The main practical points of difference seem to be: * Data is open, so paywalling APIs would be impossible * If reddit does something really wrong, someone could fork it

Of course, history in crypto and open source shows that forks face a huge uphill battle. There are a few successful ones (LibreOffice, Hive?) but not too many. So there's a big difference between forking being theoretically possible, and actually being credible.

Thanks for sharing your take. Could the system be architected in a way to reduce the complexities of forking? Meaning, if there is one layer of the stack that is doing something wrong, that layer could be forked and swapped but keeping the rest?
