I struggle with the idea that adversarial engagement is always bad though — sometimes the greatest advances in ones understanding of a topic, or collective understanding, is through a well formed constructive argument

Yes, agree it definitely needs to be consented or a norm for a given space

i think adversarial communication has to be welcomed — if you don’t make the space or be invited it will come across as disrespectful. but this is just my experience!
