Yes, coincidence. He just happened to be transiting through France yesterday. He was already wanted there so they seized the opportunity to grab him.

If he knew he'd get arrested why did he opt in to it and fly there?

I doubt he willingly got arrested, and if he did I can’t speculate as to why.

The likely alternatives are that he either didn’t know about the warrant (French sources say that wasn’t the case, and he’s been avoiding France lately because of it); or that he thought he’d be safe from arrest due to his status
