This map illustrates the portion of US counties where over 25% of total income comes from government aid, 1970-2022. Government aid accounts for 18% of household income. In 1970, it was 2%. Real wages have been essentially flat for half a century, whilst healthcare cost has quintupled. Self-reliance is collapsing.

Ah, okay. I was expecting that the colors represented the percentage of households for which government aid was 25% of income.
