You may have heard of Pieter Levels who popularized "indie hacking" and digital nomading starting in /chiangmai ~10 years ago. I think Hoodmaps was one of the first apps that took off. 

His recent interview fired me up. It was especially cool listening to it while being in Chiang Mai for the first time last year and working the late nights he described.

I found for Bangkok I didn't agree with the "recommended" area, but that's probably because it was more for backpackers than more long term stays.
