I'm tired of touching grass IRL, and I can't wait to touch PIXEL grass in /farville... Build my dream farm and grow quirky crops. It's honest work, but way more fun than real farming!🧑‍🌾

Obsidian has completed a second independent audit by the security firm Cure53. The report finds that incremental updates since Obsidian 1.5.3 maintained the highest degree of attention to security, and that no new vulnerabilities were introduced. https://obsidian.md/blog/cure53-second-client-audit/ Particular emphasis was placed on hardening the Web viewer plugin during its development process, to ensure it would pass our strict security standards. We're proud to report that the Cure53 team reviewed the resolutions and concluded that their recommendations have been properly followed. We make Obsidian so we can capture our own private thoughts and ideas. Independent audits help us ensure that our code and procedures meet the highest security standards. We will continue working with industry-leading security firms to provide comprehensive coverage and transparency towards this commitment.

Ed Conway goes looking for materials we have run out of—and retires the series after one post, because he can't find any. Never underestimate elasticity of supply! https://edconway.substack.com/p/hang-on-are-there-any-lost-minerals “… in trying to hunt around for minerals we have run out of, I came to an unexpected conclusion. So far, we haven’t really, meaningfully run out of, well, pretty much anything. … “… while we like to tell ourselves humankind has exhausted this or that resource, we are much better at talking about it than actually, well, exhausting said resource.” He's turning his “lost materials” series into “forgotten materials,” which “will focus on the minerals we are still extracting (in some cases in record amounts) even though most people thought we stopped doing it long ago.”

Anyone else starting to get worried about this rise of casual open imperialism? Like, not "peaceful trade at prices social justice activists don't like" imperialism but actual "let's go conquer stuff" imperialism. I know it's "meant to be a joke", but often such jokes are a first step to normalizing something dark...
