I'd try magnesium, 50mg apigenin, and maaaaaybe 50mg l-theanine (all 3 for desperate situations) before melatonin.

Nothing wrong with it per say, it’s naturally produced by the body. Recent meta analysis shows that it doesn’t really have a positive effect on sleep quality. Also in teens it’s adverse to puberty. Better to supplement with necessities that you can’t make naturally like magnesium.
