I think these are fundamental social contracts that are hard to change, and content coins don't fit neatly into them today. It could be collect but the aesthetics are not dialed in. Why am I collecting 1,123,890 of these? Will having this give me smile when i see it next? Will someone have a conversation with me about this? It could be invest (or speculate), but where do gains come from? Creators don't want to pump for good reason, so the best hope is that it becomes a meme despite the creators intent. Pump works because meme creators are unabashedly pumping. There also isn't any scarcity or exclusivity (literally billions of things!) It could be sponsor but it feels so indirect. The creator doesn't even know who is buying their coins in most cases and they don't get any status in return.

To be clear, I think it's great to experiment with new things for creators. I think there is another iteration of content coins that could do really well. It might only be a few clicks away from what we have today, but those differences are very important and we need to iterate towards them.

Agreed. The experimentation is great but the answer to “why collect?” when all content is coined? isn’t really a clear answer to that, that I see, at least not yet.

meme aka community works in a magical way of “value due to common belief”. The better way is status or value that is not easy to calculate eg; vip status that gets access to next meme coin on farcaster. Works for both creator and followers.
