#opensourcewarpcast if it's not open source, how can it be decentralized at all?

what's the point of making WC open source? if the assumption is that it would lead to another client gaining significant marketshare I'm sorry to say that the exact opposite would likely happen.

It’s not about cloning Warpcast to make another client (although I am sure that open sourcing WC would lead to TONS of shitty client 😂) Having example code that is best-in-class solutions to problems one would face while writing for FC protocol is a huge unlock even if you aren’t trying to clone Warpcast.

for me it would be more about being able to open PR's and fix stuff that really grinds my gears. Also I think it would easily provide an avenue to just run your own client with those modifications if they dont get upstreamed for reasons idk, i just think it would be a more open playing field for both builders and users.

what's something that you would fix if warpcast was open source? we're not philosophically opposed to it, im just skeptical that its the most important thing for us to do right now because its a non trivial amount of work to maintain the repo as open source, respond to prs and do all the things that a good open source project should.

warpcast is also very expensive to run, so i suspect most people would prefer running something like herocast if they are self hosting.

A completely reasonable point of view. I'm not sure why people think you're opposed to the idea in principle.

Hey, I actually agree and see how it doesnt make sense now, maybe it does in the future tho? There' are other priorities that indeed seem more pressing. Im still happy we got this conversation going as it seems a lot of great feedback/takes/ideas have come out of it. There's some stuff like the spam label / active on fc network/ frame collapsing that should be easy to send PR's for like for example Let me choose if i see posts from people i follow above or under show more on user settings - Let me choose if i see frames collapsed or not by default regardless of spam labels What i was trying to say, is there's small features that could be proposed by community that might not make sense to priortize/build for you as a company team, but still could get merged. I can see how this is not something we need right now, but it would be certainly be awesome to have it at some point!
