Hubs are open source. Access to the protocol is the important thing for developers.

Warpcast has +300 endpoints I would say is larger than the farcaster protocol by far. This response with hubs being open-source is a gimmick, Warpcast just built a backend that acts like an extension of the protocol that's not open-source, and like you say they claim this ecosystem is decentralized. Open-sourcing Warpcast is a minimum bar for having trust, the reticence of doing that for me looks like malfeasance. It's clear to me that the Merkel team and Dan want to keep significant control over everything Warpcast/Faracaster related, and if that's true I don't know why they even bother with decentralization if it's just marketing.

I’m with you on it. Having to play the algo game as I had to on X wasn’t how I envisioned the Farcaster experience to turn out.

i've been critical of FC in the past calling it an "open social platform" instead of a "protocol". it was pointed out to me by varun that even if the company folds tomorrow, ppl can still create an account, post a message, and read a message. echoing what dwr is saying above. but i also posed the question, if that's all that's needed, then why does the company exist. i didn't get an answer. 🤷♂️

what's the point of making WC open source? if the assumption is that it would lead to another client gaining significant marketshare I'm sorry to say that the exact opposite would likely happen.
