The bigger the image the more captivating I’d say - it’s too bad the uncropped are somehow smaller but 1:1 works

Agnostic of ratio, filling the container with center alignment is a best practice.

Personally, I think there should be no invisible parts when looking at the work.

That's why I think I need more full size.

Full size. Quality work is rarely 1:1. I want a preview to decide what to click into, I don’t want that preview to be cropped.
