As someone not super design proficient, I want to practice my website design skills by building a Shopify site in my free time. Any recommendations or tips?

I wouldn't recommend Shopify as a way to practice web design skills - it's an entirely different experience than square space, webflow, wix, and I found it really unintuitive as someone who'd built several websites both with builders and code.

Square space is the most user friendly but can be frustrating, as you're mostly using pre-built components. Webflow is tops but has a steep learning curve. 

The problem with Shopify is it uses its own system based on templates, so it's not easy to customize. Experience on Shopify isn't helpful anywhere but shopify

What would you use to build an eccomerce marketplace? Would you recommend something else?
