For a prototype, I'm really pleased with how this dress turned out. 

The next step is to create the paper pattern, and reproduce it in a finer fabric. I'm thinking maybe white linen or a lightweight wool. 

A solid color is probably best to help the hand-sew details stand out.

Bamboo or Tencel fabric might add a great flow to it when you walk so will fine cotton mixed fibers.

Yes, exactly! I'm interested to see how other fabrics react, but will play it safe for the first iteration. This dark army green is actually linen, so I know what to expect with that. 

I think a lightweight wool gabardine would drape beautifully—also a silk crepe! But won't invest in silk until pattern is perfect :)

So cool! Just bear in mind you won't have the same draping with a lighter fabric, also linen tend to be less fluid so other draping shape! Update us on the result!!
