So listen, all I want is a plot of land with a bunch of little houses and a garden and a goat.  Residents are a multicultural cohort of women and maybe a man who doesn’t hate them 

But every way I slice these thoughts, it looks like anything from an HOA to a cult. 

I still want to retire this way but the plans in themselves feel intrinsically problematic

When my husband died, my daughter was just 4 and I moved into a little house in a bungalow court kinda like these. There were 3 other single moms w only daughters living there. We did exactly this. Cooked for each other, baby sat, drank wine. I lived there until recently. Such a perfect experience under the worst circumstances. Part of what was great is it was organic. No established obligations. Pure, genuine matriarchal community with kids feeling like they could roam around “town” but safer
