Work in progress The words we use to describe "money deployed into an instrument / transaction with expectation of future upside" The words implicitly carry a judgement on the activity based on 1) duration 2) perceived value. Haven't found a word for the bottom right quadrant.

Given the two axes, I think collecting and patronage fit the best. That said, I don’t think the y axis is aligned with the intent of your post. Gambling could easily be in the top left since they play the power of law and typically need more valuable individual returns. If the y axis was high/low expectations, the bottom left quadrant would be flipping and the bottom right would be collecting.
