Safe to say at this point that team Trump overplayed their hand post convention. Several unforced errors, the Vance problem, Trump fatigue. Meanwhile untapped Kamala memetic power has been discovered. Walz is a good, safe pick. How much will people care that Kamala wasn’t voted on? It bothers me plenty. If I were a rep. operative I’d push this point. Odds are 50/50 at this point. I don’t play roulette but if I did I’d bet on Trump winning.

Walz is a really smart pick for her, though. Where she lacks substance, he has it. He has surface appeal where she lacks it. In an election where few voters seem to care about anything but preventing the other from winning, he gives her a chance.

Most notably to me is the stark contrast between now and just a few weeks ago. 

There was zero excitement about her as a candidate and barely more during her tenure as VP. Even after the announcement was made, it was quiet; she wasn't a strong, let alone obvious nominee (I would have put a bunch of money down for Michelle on Polymarket if I could). Then, all of a sudden as if she were the obvious nominee, everyone was pumped about her. Not her policies, positions, or experience; her. Then, the talking points on "border czar" (cards that were handed out), proliferation of "weird", etc.

To be fair, I don't know that her campaign is behind the impressive consistency. The coordination of media around her is almost certainly manufactured. And to be honest, I can't blame them; they're playing the game well!
