Both have their advantages and disadvantages - but let's be honest and say that the Farcaster will never be a mass thing. Definitely not by user growth.

Could be a mass thing. Most new tech starts with a few and then expands to many if useful, E.g. Cell phones and internet. If @farcaster is useful for many it will be because it's a higher quality customizable feed than X and better for researching what you're interested in than Reddit where you own your account and data.
