Please, can someone explain to me clearly and simply why WalletConnect can't work like this diagram? I'm probably stupid, but I don't get it. WC architecture seems fundamentally broken to me. https://warpcast.com/tree/0x46176294

btw I'm in touch with the folks at Waku and will be happy to participate in creating an alternative for WalletConnect. I feel the same way about it as I do about POAP - I see a lot of strange decisions & overcomplications there too, and it also deserves a truly decentralized and permission-less alternative.

WHY do I need an API key to use WalletConnect? I feel like a fool, but I don't see ANY need for it. I just want to connect dapp to wallet and vice versa, that's all.

WalletConnect is VC-funded. VCs can't extract value from a pure peer-to-peer protocol.
