someone said the tiktok ban is gonna be like 180M people going cold turkey on a drug so i looked into studies on social media detox taking week-long breaks from social led to less anxiety and depression, better sleep, lower stress, more real-world engagement, some felt bored but found alternative activities

I had the app when it was ByteDance and it was a brand account. Never had it once it became TikTok. I have two friends who are DEVASTATED. One is a creator and has amassed a following. She does best there going live. I understand why she is upset. But the other is a consumer and you’d think she was getting her right hand cut off. I don’t understand her POV at all.

I have many friends who are getting their livelihoods ripped away, LIVES tips and commerce sales were all directly from tiktok, or that was their main audience and everywhere else was a ghost town for their business. From the consumer side, some of it is the fervor of the moment, and also I’ve pruned this damn algorithm for years now, and to start over somewhere else gives existential dread—reminds me why I was attracted to Farcaster to behind with
