Interesting take by @tomu.eth, contrarian to the “collect is the new like”

I think base solves this to some degree by making it so cheap to move things around to different wallets. you can curate what you want to show so its not pure chaos (other than the spam coins and nfts, that is out of control on base right now).

yes, you can have your curated wallet, but my point on the article is to differentiate what's onchain and what's offchain why do we need to collect everything that's shared on our feed? just cos it's "free"? you actually pay ~$3 per each mint from eth to base there's a huge improvement, but that shouldn't create a meta where every content must be collected i can like your content, but only collect what resonates with me

I completely agree with all of this. I think having free things as collectibles that can be used in the future is ok, I don't see the point of minting casts or minting everything but i am looking at it through the eyes of an artist that leans to scarcity. I released a few images when I joined FC where I prepaid all the gas and it was kind of a revelation on how amazing all of this can be to onboard people that didn't even have money in the wallet they used to mint. Making crypto fun and free (for the end user) with no speculation is the way to onboard millions.
