i tried doing research on speed sessions and still have no idea what to do so im lazy-posting here. running my first half mid-may - what speed sessions should i incorporate? will tip degen!

for a half, i’d focus on tempo/threshold runs. this should be the pace you believe you could hold for an hour. for many, this is between 10k and half marathon start with 20 min at this pace (with 10 min warmup/cooldown), then extend to 30 then 40

other things you could try: - progression runs during your long runs: start easy, and then build up to half marathon pace - 800 or 1K repeats: only necessary if you’ve got a more ambitious time goal imo

that said, i’d try and find a plan. takes a lot of guesswork out, and generally folks see much better performance with fewer injuries than a full DIY plan, esp if low experience with making them on your own

hal higdon is a popular one for many types of runners. i used pfitzinger for my first marathon and loved it. he has a book for shorter distances that i’ve heard good things about. i think it’s called “faster road racing” or smth
