Thinking about my writing for 2025, I feel ready to go all-in on the "slowcore" approach. It starts by reframing how I write online: - Remove the marketing lens from sharing my work - Share because a piece moves me, not to grow an audience - Choose platforms and methods that feel low-stakes and enjoyable I plan to start with my Substack, "The Unnerving." Pivoting it to a digital (haunted) garden for my creepy stories. An archive of sorts. More to come on that shortly!

Yes! I love it and look forward to seeing the shape the haunted garden takes on :)) Especially the marketing lens, I was watching an interview with a sociologist recently who said that one of the best things we can do with is stop using the "cost-utility" calculation and applying it to the things we do. I struggle with it, but esp for creative writing I think that's the best one can do.

A cynic may say that I very much agree with your approach here because “growing an audience” has been slow going for me. But that’s the cynic’s role. I have taken a step back to look at my own writing from a higher level. What do *I* enjoy writing? What has resonated most with readers? What gets me excited? The answer to the above may be different for each. And so be it. Good luck with it, Tom. I’ll be reading along 😊
