Agreed, but I also want to better understand the motivation to create an L3.

I agree with you that L3 is unnecessary and in some place its distracting from Degen's core focus!!

BUT I still support the experiment by @jacek. It's good to FAFO in the early days :)

Can someone explain to me why it makes sense to create an alternative social app in the first place?

I think there's merit to it if you want to process onchain token data at scale near the price of web2 servers. Which mostly applies to like video games or I guess claim-less tipping like hamchain.

But personally I think the degen L3 came way too soon, no one really asked for it and it ended up being a net negative.

From my perspective it feels like a good solution for a more closed system, like making an in-game marketplace. Degen doesnt have a specific purpose as much as its part of the we-keep-building meme

For a general purpose chain, an L2 would be ideal. App specific, high throughput, low fee but willing to compromise on other aspects, L3 could be the way to go.
